Alex Mathew
Associate Professor
Sculpture


Alex Mathew was born in Trivandrum, Kerala. Studied art in Institutions like College of Fine Arts, Trivandrum (1975-81), Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University of Baroda (1982-84), Hochschule fur Bildende Kunste(1986-87).

The Exhibitions participated (selected) include ‘Seven Young Sculptors’, Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi(1985) organized by Kasauli Arts Centre,, ’Questions and Dialogues’ Faculty of Fine Arts (1986) organized by Radical Sculptors and Painters Association, ’Alekhya Darshan’, Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva(1987), ’Timeless Art’ Sesquicentennial show by Times of India (1988), Exhibition of Sculptures and Drawings, Venkatappa Gallery (with N.Pushpamala) (1989) also ”Songs of Dark Times ’CMC’ Gallery, New Delhi(1991), Two person show in Gallery Chemould (1992).

Selected workshops and camps include Kasauli Art Centre Camp (1984, 1988), International artists Camp ’KHOJ, at Modinagar, New Delhi, ’AOM project by SAHMAT (2001), International artists Camp in Kosovo organized by UN (2005).

Also worked on a large concrete mural along with Asokan Poduval at IPCL, Baroda (1985-6), Executed commission Works for Jyothi Ltd, Baroda (1993,1995), Monumental Sculpture at Shakatan Thampuran Palace,Trissur(2003-4).

Taught at Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University of Baroda (1993-99), RLV College, MG University, Kerala (2000-02), Presently working  as a Reader in S.N. School of Performing Arts, Fine Arts & Communication; Central University of Hyderabad.
