Tanmay Santra
Assistant Professor
Painting


Tanmay Santra has a Bachelor’s degree in Science from University of Calcutta and he studied visual art with specialization in Painting (BVA, 1994 - ‘99) at the Indian College of Arts & Draftsmanship (Rabindra Bharati University), Kolkata. He did his Master’s degree (MFA, 2000-‘02) from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan  (West Bengal).

He had a two-person-show in Kolkata (1998) and he has participated in number of shows, workshops and residency programmes in the last decade. His Group Shows include ‘All Greens are Leaves, but…’ at Gallery Hasta, Hyderabad (2008),‘Pastiche’ at Lanxesss ABS Gallery in Baroda (2007), ‘Crosscurrents, Crosstalk: A Politics of Location’ at Samokal Art Gallery in Kolkata (2007), ‘An Art Exhibition by Young Contemporaries of Santiniketan’ at Nandan Art Gallery, Santiniketan (2006), ‘Different Strokes’ at Gallery Katayun, Kolkata (2006),  ‘A Glimpse of Bengal Contemporary Art’ at the Galleries of Collectors’ Stop, New Delhi, ‘Indian  Paintings  Exhibition’ in Jakarta, Indonesia (2006), at  Barn Galleries, Henley, UK, A Significant Difference’ at Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata (2003), ‘Kala Jathrae’ at Venkatappa Art Gallery, Bangaluru, ‘A Tale of a City’ at Gallery Caps, Kolkata (2003), ‘Open Air Show’ at Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata.

He was the recipient of junior Fellowship from Ministry of Tourism & Culture, New Delhi (2002-04), Artist Dinkar Thopate Award from Tilak Smarak Mandir, Pune (2005). He had been associated with Wigan & Leigh College, Kolkata, as a visiting faculty from 2002 to 2005. He also taught at Patha Bhavan (2004-05) and Siksha-Satra (2006-07), Visva-Bharati University.
